There are many, many benefits to owning a business web page. The internet is a whole new sales channel open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, instantly accessible from anywhere in the world. Why would your business not be on the internet?

I certainly do. You surely do. Even the act of searching for information using the world’s most dominant search engine has been turned into a verb – to ‘google’! Business Web Page, or Business Website?
To be honest, although a business web page is better than nothing at all, it won’t achieve much on its own. It is preferable to have at minimum, a ‘brochure’ site, with around five pages explaining how excellent your company is, where it can be found, what products it deals with, how your customers can buy these products and what your past clients have said about your products. If you are thinking of accepting money and making sales through the website, this will mean more pages and more initial cost.
To get the absolute best value for my clients when I build their websites, I always ask a set of questions as part of a ‘needs analysis’ exercise so we both get an idea what they really want from a website. This is crucial in order to maximize the value they get from me.
Do it yourself or hire a freelancer?
There are plenty of products available which allow you to build your own website, or to use a template or ‘ready-made’ website at very low prices.
I want to advise anybody who is serious about creating a company website not to use these products.
I’m not saying they don’t offer value for money, they do. You can get a reasonably pretty website up and running within a day, for a pittance.
But that is all you will get.
What you do not get is a website that is optimized for your company or for the search engines. It simply will not get visitors. Google in particular frown upon ‘instant’ websites created with cheap software as it is the preferred, cheap and easy way to work by scam artists looking to knock up a quick page to make a quick buck. For these reasons the site will never do as well in the search results.
Nor do not get the initial consultation with a web expert, the beautiful bespoke website design, the optional logo and marketing material design, the keyword research, the search engine optimization and marketing, the invaluable on-going management and advise from the experts, the list goes on…
